From cookery to fireworks, from music to art, from sandcastles to speedboats The Ardmore Pattern Festival 2013 is one that we on the committee are truly proud to have put together and one that will live long in our memories. The hard work that went into 2013 – as well as the festivals before it – was rewarded just recently with a prestigious countywide award. And the recognition afforded by such an award is something we greatly appreciate.
We do feel that Festival 2013 represented the culmination of a lot of hard work, both by the current committee and previous ones over the years. In the light of its success – and due in no small part to a combination of diminishing available funds and personnel changes within the committee – we believe that 2014 provides us with a great opportunity to take a long, hard look at all aspects of the current festival format. The year ahead will give us a chance to re-evaluate the festival in its entirety and, where necessary, rejuvenate and revamp it.
Essentially, we plan to use 2014 to look at where the festival should now go and how we get it there; we want to explore the means by which we create something even better and more sustainable from 2015 onwards.To ensure the long-term viability of the festival there are a number of practical things we need to get working on immediately. These include improving the means by which we fundraise and generate the level of sponsorship required; ma king the committee structure more robust, as well as increasing the number of people on the committee; evaluating the current festival programme and planning better for the years ahead; and, in general terms, setting the festival on more solid, professional foundation – a process already begun this year through the formation of a limited company. To accomplish all of the above – and to ensure that the festival continues to grow and to thrive from 2015 onwards – we have decided to set aside the next twelve months.
Finally, we will run some key, select events on and around Pattern Day 2014 – remember, we’re only scaling back for a year, nothing more than that – and we will publish more details about planned chosen events in 2014 when we have them confirmed.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish a very Happy Christmas and say thanks to everyone who has been associated with the Ardmore Pattern Festival over the last 8 years. It’s been a tremendous success to date and let us now build on what’s already been achieved and make sure we can enjoy many more years of this wonderful family festival.
